Read my story below and watch the video for an insight into my career…
A brief outline of my background
Allow me to introduce myself, so you can understand a little of what makes me tick and how I can help you focus for success.
With over 20 years of experience and a background in hairdressing, starting as an apprentice at 15 years old, I soon realised that the direction I really wanted to go was into Men’s hair.
This creativity was sparked when one evening my boss asked me to stay behind, I thought I was in trouble, in fact he asked me to cut his hair, and he had a flat-top!!
After more than an hour and a half, I had the bug for Men’s classic cuts and he had a prefect (well almost) haircut. It was this single cut that paved the way for me to become the premiere gents stylist in the salon.
After moving from there to work at Michael M International and then on to traveling around Europe, cutting on balconies, beaches and 5* Hotels, settling for a year in Tenerife to work in the the Palm Beach Club in their exclusive salon.
Other jobs whilst traveling included water skiing instructor, jeep safari guide, travel agent and selling my handmade jewellery, alongside cutting hair.
Also developing a love for photography, I decided upon my return to attend College to study the craft and had a fabulous three years studying in Edinburgh, and working part time in a barbershop, expanding that craft too.
After graduation, I worked as a photographer, and specialises in shooting live music and events, for magazines, agencies and record companies.
But as ever, when someone finds out that you cut hair, they always want a tidy up, so my scissors never really got a rest. Came in quite handy when there was not a hairdresser around.
My interest was reignited in barbering, in 2011, and I opened Esquire Barbershop.
With one chair and a traditional Walkin Service it was an instant hit, offering Precision Cuts and Hot Towel Shaves.
After 3 years I moved to bigger premises and added additional chairs and workspace, moving over to 90% online booking, due to demand.
Alongside this, I was helping Fife College develop their Barbering Course Content, beginning with demonstrations, then delivering a Hairdresser to Barber course, to teaching the full SVQ Level 2 Barbering.
Demand has grown for Barbering Education, and as such, I have worked with many companies including Quartered Steels, The Barber Council, Bluebeards Revenge, Great British Barbering Academey, Scottish Hair Show, Pro Hair Mag, Best Of British, Andis, HJ Men, Barber Evo and numerous individuals.
I have been able to help them promote and meet their clients needs, whether it is a stage demo, hosting an event or just delivering a positive message for their brand.
I am available for product testing, comparing, judging, stage work, stand promotion, photoshoots, session work, assessing and press quotes.
Feel free to get in touch to see how I could help you, your salon, company or brand focus for success.
